The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 1500 UTC. ...TROPICAL WAVES... The axis of a tropical wave is near 97W N of 02N, moving W at 10 kt. Associated convection is discussed in the monsoon trough section below. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from 12N87W to 14.5N103W to 09N130W. The ITCZ continues from 09N130W to 08N140W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted from 07N to 17N between 86W and 114W. Scattered moderate convection is noted from 08N to 10N between 117W and 129W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Weak high pressure prevails west of Baja California. Gentle to moderate S to SW winds prevail across all but the entrance to Gulf of California. Seas are generally 2 to 4 ft across the basin. Gentle to locally moderate N to NW winds prevail west of Baja California. Light to gentle winds dominate the remainder of the offshore waters. Seas of 4 to 6 ft in mixed long period swells are noted across the open waters off Mexico. A weak high pressure ridge will prevail west of Baja California through the week with fairly tranquil marine conditions anticipated. Afternoon heating to produce fresh NW winds along portions of the Pacific coasts of Baja each afternoon. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Light to gentle winds prevail north of the monsoon trough, with gentle to moderate W to SW winds south of the monsoon trough. Seas are 4 to 7 ft across the offshore waters, except for a few small areas of seas to 8 ft within the areas of locally fresh SW winds west of the Gulf of Papagayo. Little change in marine conditions are expected the next few days. SW swell will propagate into the waters between Colombia and the Galapagos Islands this weekend, increasing wave heights to near 8 ft. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A surface trough extends from 31N123W to 23N127W with moderate to fresh N-NE winds occurring west of the trough, and seas of 7 to 8 ft to the north of this trough. Winds and seas will decrease through the end of the week as the trough shifts slowly SE and dissipates. Otherwise, broad and weak high pressure dominates the waters north of the monsoon trough, along with gentle to moderate NE trades. Gentle to moderate southerly winds prevail south of the monsoon trough, moderate to locally fresh east of 125W. Seas of 5 to 8 ft in mixed long period swell dominate the waters. Little overall change in these marine conditions is forecast through the remainder of the week. $$ AL
