Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning: Strong high pressure across southern Mexico will funnel winds across the Chivela Pass into the Gulf of Tehuantepec through Sun. These gap winds will remain at gale force through Sun morning, peaking at 40-45 kt early this morning. Maximum seas will peak at 16-18 ft later this morning. A trough extends from 08N78W to 03N93W. The ITCZ continues from 03N93W to 02N120W to 02N140W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted from 03N to 05N between 111W and 116W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Please see Special Features section above for details on a Gale Warning for the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Scatterometer data shows gentle to moderate winds across most of the forecast area. Seas are 3 to 5 ft, except downstream from the gale winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Gales will continue in the Gulf of Tehuantepec through Sun morning. High pressure building N of 30N through Sun night will support fresh to strong NW winds west of Baja California Norte Sat through Mon. NW winds will increase in the northern Gulf of California on Wed. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Scatterometer data shows light to gentle winds across most of the forecast area. Seas are generally 2 to 4 ft. Fresh to strong NE to E winds will pulse across the Papagayo region through Mon night, generating seas to 8-9 ft. Fresh N winds are expected in the Gulf of Panama tonight through Mon night. Light to gentle winds will prevail elsewhere. Large seas from strong winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec will spread into the offshore waters of Guatemala and El Salvador through Sun. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A stationary front extends across the northern waters from 31N123W to 21N138W. Scatterometer data showed moderate to fresh NE winds north of the stationary front, and seas are estimated to be in the 8 to 11 ft range in the vicinity of the front. An area of large NW swell, associated with the front, to 11-13 ft covers the NW part of the discussion area. The stationary front will weaken and dissipate through early Sun. Strong high pressure will build north of 30N through Sun night, and support fresh to strong NW winds west of Baja California, along with an increase in trade winds north of the ITCZ Sun through Tue, with seas building to 9 to 12 ft across the western waters through early next week. $$ Mundell
