Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning: Strong high pressure across southern Mexico will funnel winds across the Chivela Pass into the Gulf of Tehuantepec through Sun. These gap winds will remain at gale force through Sun morning, and peak at 40-45 kt tonight. Maximum seas will build to 16-18 ft tonight and Sat. A trough extends from 08N78W to 03N92W. The ITCZ continues from 03N92W to 02N118W to 02N140W. Scattered moderate convection is noted within 60 nm N and 30 nm S of the ITCZ axis between 96W and 129W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Please see Special Features section above for details on a Gale Warning for the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Scatterometer data shows gentle to moderate winds across most of the forecast area. Seas are 3 to 5 ft, except downstream from the gale winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Gales will continue in the Gulf of Tehuantepec, with winds reaching 40-45 kt, through early Sun. High pressure building N of 30N through Sun night will support fresh to strong NW winds west of Baja California Norte Sat through Mon. NW winds will increase in the northern Gulf of California on Wed. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Scatterometer data shows light to gentle winds across most of the forecast area. Seas are generally 2 to 4 ft. Fresh to strong NE to E winds will pulse across the Papagayo region through Mon night, with building seas. Fresh N winds are expected in the Gulf of Panama Sat night through Mon night. Light to gentle winds will prevail elsewhere. Large seas from strong winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec will spread into the offshore waters of Guatemala and El Salvador through Sun. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Weak high pressure is centered near 29N124W, and a stationary front extends across the northern waters from 32N124W to 21N138W. Scatterometer data showed moderate to fresh N to NE winds north of the stationary front, and seas are estimated to be in the 8 to 11 ft range in NW swell in the vicinity of the front. An area of large NW swell, associated with the front, to 12-13 ft covers the NW part of the discussion area. The stationary front will weaken and dissipate through early Sun. Strong high pressure will build north of 30N through Sun night, and support fresh to strong NW winds west of Baja California along with an increase in trade winds north of the ITCZ Sun through Tue, with seas building to 9 to 12 ft across western waters through early next week. $$ Mundell
