Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning: Strong high pressure building southward in the Gulf of Mexico will funnel winds across Mexico into the Gulf of Tehuantepec. These gap winds will remain at gale force through Sun morning, and peak at 40-45 kt tonight. Maximum seas may reach 15-18 ft on Sat. A trough extends from 07N82W to 04N87W. The ITCZ continues from 04N88W to 02N110W to 04N140W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted from 03N to 08N between 80W and 88W, and from 0N to 08N between 103W and 137W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Fresh to strong NW winds will develop west of Baja California this weekend. Large NW swell associated with a weakening cold front will reach the waters west of Baja California this weekend, then linger into Mon. Gap winds across the Gulf of Tehuantepec will diminish Sun night and Mon. Gentle to moderate winds are expected elsewhere. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Fresh to strong NE to E winds will pulse across the Papagayo region through early next week. Moderate to fresh winds will pulse in the Gulf of Panama Sat through Mon. Light to gentle winds will prevail elsewhere. Large seas from Gulf of Tehuantepec gales this weekend will spread into the offshore waters of Guatemala and El Salvador through Sun. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Surface high pressure anchored by a 1022 mb high near 27N124W is ahead of a stationary front that extends from 30N125W to 22N137W. Moderate NE winds are behind of the front with seas in the 8 to 12 ft range in NW swell. South of 16N, the gradient between the high and the ITCZ supports moderate NE to E trades W of 115W with seas to 8 ft. The front will transition to a cold front and will continue eastward across the waters north of 23N through Sun, while slowly weakening. Moderate to locally fresh winds are expected behind the front.
