Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning: Strong high pressure building southward in the western Gulf of Mexico will funnel winds across Mexico into the Gulf of Tehuantepec. These gap winds will remain at gale force through Sun morning, and peak at 40-45 kt tonight. Maximum seas may reach 15-18 ft on Sat. Moderate NW to N winds north of 20N will prevail through tonight. Fresh to strong NW winds will develop west of Baja California this weekend. Large NW swell associated with a weakening cold front will reach the waters west of Baja California this weekend, then linger into Mon. Gap winds across the Gulf of Tehuantepec will diminish Sun night and Mon. Gentle to moderate winds are expected elsewhere. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Light to gentle winds were indicated in scatterometer data early this morning. Sea heights range from 3 to 5 ft. Fresh to strong NE to E winds will pulse across the Papagayo region through early next week. Moderate to fresh winds will pulse in the Gulf of Panama Sat through Mon. Light to gentle winds will prevail elsewhere. Large seas from Gulf of Tehuantepec gales this weekend will spread into the offshore waters of Guatemala and El Salvador through Sun. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Moderate to fresh trade winds north of the ITCZ to around 15N are generating seas in the 6-8 ft range. A cold front from 31N127W to 21N139W will continue eastward across the waters north of 23N through Sun, while slowly weakening. Moderate to fresh winds are expected behind the front. NW swell of 8-13 ft associated with the front will continue propagating south and east through the weekend. Winds will likely increase to fresh to strong during the weekend as strong high pressure north of the area settles south. $$ Mundell
