The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0300 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from 09N84W to 07N92W to 10N112W to 08N124W. The ITCZ continues from 08N124W to 08N132W to 10N140W. Scattered moderate convection is noted from 08N to 14N between 99W and 122W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Gulf of Tehuantepec: Winds in the southern Gulf of Mexico are veering towards east-southeast, and the forcing mechanism for strong winds across the Chivela Pass into the Gulf of Tehuantepec is weakening. Fresh to strong northerly winds are expected in the Tehuantepec region overnight, becoming gentle to moderate on Wed. Gentle to moderate NW winds prevail west of Baja California Norte with seas to 8 ft in long period NW swell north of Punta Eugenia. Light to gentle winds will prevail elsewhere west of the Baja peninsula through early Thu. Fresh to strong winds will funnel through the Baja California Norte passes into the offshore waters Thu through Fri morning as strong high pressure builds over the Great Basin region. Strong northerly winds and high seas to 10 ft are also expected in the northern Gulf of California on Thu. Fresh NW winds will prevail across most of the gulf through Sat. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Fresh NE to E winds are expected in the Gulf of Papagayo through Wed evening. Seas generated by strong winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec will propagate across the offshore waters of Guatemala and El Salvador overnight. Light to gentle winds are expected elsewhere north of the monsoon trough, with moderate to fresh S to SW winds south of the trough axis. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A broad ridge of high pressure continues to dominate the northern waters. The gradient between the ridge and lower pressures within the monsoon trough is supporting moderate to fresh NE to E trade winds, generally north of 10N and west of 120W. Seas are 6 to 8 ft across this area. Long period NW swell entering the NW part of the forecast area will build seas to 8-10 ft. Another larger NW swell event will begin to propagate across the NW waters on Wed, with seas building to 12-16 ft west of a line from 30N133W to 20N140W by Wed night. $$ Mundell
