Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0900 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... Tropical Storm Lowell is centered near 21.2N 123.7W at 0900 UTC, moving WNW at 9 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 1003 mb. Maximum sustained winds are 40 kt with gusts to 50 kt. Scattered moderate to strong convection is noted within 150 nm east of the center. Lowell will move westward during the next 48 to 72 hours. A slow weakening trend is expected as the storm encounters a less favorable environment. None. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough axis extends off the coast of Costa Rica near 10N86W to 10N95W to 12N102W to 10N111W. The monsoon trough continues SW of Lowell near 14N124W to 10N134W. The ITCZ continues from 10N134W to 11N140W. Scattered moderate to strong convection is within 60 nm of the Central America coast between 87W and 95W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted from 07N to 11N between 86W and 98W. Scattered moderate convection is noted from 08N to 12N between 107W and 118W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Weak ridging is between northern Baja California and Tropical Storm Lowell. This is maintaining light to gentle northerly winds across the region with seas to 7 ft. Northerly swell will reach the Baja California peninsula late tonight and Friday, and continue through Saturday, with seas of 8 to 11 ft. Light to gentle winds are expected farther south the next several days, with seas to 5 ft. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Moderate south to southwest winds prevail south of 11N and the monsoon trough with gentle winds north of the monsoon trough. Combined seas are currently to 7 ft in a mix of wind waves and southerly swell. Winds south of the monsoon trough will increase today and tonight with seas to 9 ft. By Friday night, moderate south to southwesterly winds and 6-8 ft seas are expected. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A cold front will stall NW of the area from 34N136W to 30N145W late tonight. Associated NW swell from the front will move into the far NW waters today, raising seas to 8-12 ft through Fri. By the weekend, seas are expected to be 8-11 ft, mixing with swell generated by Tropical Storm Lowell. $$ Mundell
