000 AXPZ20 KNHC 020301 TWDEP Tropical Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 0405 UTC Wed Sep 2 2020 Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from the Equator to 32N, east of 140W. The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0300 UTC. ...TROPICAL WAVES... A tropical wave axis is along 80W, north of 01N into Panama, moving west at 10-15 kt. Scattered moderate convection is noted from 06N to 09N within 150 nm east of the wave axis. A tropical wave axis is along 107W, between 03N and 17N, moving west at 15 to 20 kt. Isolated convection is noted near the wave axis. A tropical wave axis is along 117W, between 02N and 15N, moving west at 10 to 15 kt. No significant convection is noted with this wave. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from 10N84W to 10N93W to 09N99W to 11N107W to 08N120W, then continues from 16N119W to 13N130W to 14N140W. Scattered moderate convection is noted from 09N to 12N between 100W and 115W, and within 90 nm south of the trough axis west of 125W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A weak pressure pattern persists across the region, and recent scatterometer data shows light to gentle winds prevail across the offshore waters of Baja California and southern Mexico. A surface trough is analyzed along the western part of the Gulf of California, and moderate SE winds are noted in the northern Gulf. Little change in marine conditions is expected during the next several days. Moderate southerly flow will continue over the northern Gulf of California, and gentle to moderate NW winds will prevail west of Baja California through the weekend. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, and WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Scatterometer data indicates gentle to moderate S to SW winds persist south of the monsoon trough, with light to gentle winds north of the trough offshore of Guatemala and El Salvador. Seas are 4-7 ft across much of the region, except 7-8 ft in southerly swell from near the Galapagos Islands eastward towards Ecuador. Gentle to moderate monsoonal flow will freshen later this week offshore of Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador. Southerly swell will continue propagating northward, resulting in increased wave heights across the waters E of 90W through Thu night. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A weak pressure gradient prevails north of the monsoon trough, resulting in mainly light to gentle winds north of 20N. Sea heights were 7-8 ft in northerly swell in far NW waters, but are expected to subside overnight as the swell decays in the area. Moderate southerly flow is noted south of the monsoon trough between 100W and 125W. Seas are 5 to 7 ft, with isolated areas around 8 ft within fresh monsoonal flow. 7 to 8 ft seas persist south of the equator in southerly cross-equatorial swell. Little change expected in marine conditions the next few days. $$ Mundell
