The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 2100 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends from 10N75W TO 07.5N88W TO 07N110W. The ITCZ extends from 07N110W TO 06.5N140W. Scattered strong convection is noted from 03.5N TO 07.5N east OF 82W to coast of Colombia. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted from 07N TO 12N between 87W AND 107W. Scattered moderate to strong convection is noted from 04.5N TO 09.5N between 116W AND 140W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A ridge extends from a 1034 mb surface high pressure offshore of northern California through 30N132W to near the Revillagigedo Islands. Moderate to fresh NW winds continue to offshore of Baja California Norte, where seas are 8 to 10 ft in NW to N swell. Gentle to moderate winds and 5 to 7 ft seas are noted elsewhere. Northerly gales well offshore of southern California continue to produce NW swell, that will persist off Baja California Norte into Thu night, while winds gradually diminish by Thu. Areas of moderate S to SE winds are expected to develop in the Gulf of California Thu night and Fri. Gentle to moderate westerly breezes and 3 to 5 ft seas persist across the Mexican offshore waters south of 20N. Smoke from agricultural fires is expected to impact visibility near the shore, especially offshore Chiapas and Oaxaca, through Thu morning. A late season cold front moving through the Gulf of Mexico will deliver near gale force gap winds across the Gulf of Tehuantepec late tonight and again Thu night, with seas building to 10-11 ft. Seas generated by the northerly gap winds will mix with longer period southerly swell reaching the area late Thu. Another gap wind event is expected to develop across the Gulf of Tehuantepec Sun. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Moderate gap winds are occurring across the Papagayo region this afternoon. Elsewhere light to gentle winds prevail. Seas are 4 to 6 ft through the region. Agricultural fires across Central America are producing areas of smoke and reduced visibilities across the nearshore waters from Tehuantepec to near the Gulf of Fonseca this afternoon and will persist through Thu morning. Fresh gap winds will pulse tonight across the Papagayo region, before increasing to strong Thu night as high pressure builds north of the area. SW long period swell will reach the Galapagos Islands Thu and Fri, and may reach some waters off Central America Fri night into the weekend. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Northerly swell associated with strong to gale force northerly winds off the coast of southern California has moved into the waters west of Guadalupe Island, north of 25N and east of 125W. 1034 mb high pressure centered offshore of northern California is supporting moderate to fresh trade winds farther south into the deep tropics, where seas are 7 to 9 ft in a mix of NW swell and tradewind seas. Seas are 6 to 7 ft elsewhere. The swell is expected to taper off into late week, with seas diminishing below 8 ft Thu night. Meanwhile Southern Hemispheric long period SW swell will move across the equator east of 125W this evening, bringing 8 to 10 ft seas south of 11N and east of 125W by late Fri. This swell will subside across the tropics below 8 ft Sat evening as it propagates toward Central America. $$ Stripling
