The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 1500 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends from 07N78W to 06N82W to 08N94W to 07N106W. The ITCZ extends from 07N106W to 04N122W to 06N130W, then continues from 06N132W to 05N140W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted within 120 nm of the trough east of 100W. Scattered moderate convection is occurring within 120 nm of the ITCZ west of 132W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A 1024 mb high pressure center near 33N131W extends a ridge SE near the Revillagigedo Islands and offshore of southern Mexico. Moderate NW flow prevails offshore of Baja California, while light to gentle winds are noted over the Gulf of California and in the offshore waters off southern Mexico. Visible satellite imagery shows smoke from agricultural fires persists over the waters from Cabo Corrientes SE to the Tehuantepec region. Haze and smoke may reduce visibility at times, especially in the coastal waters. The offshore high pressure ridge will persist through early next week. Near gale force northerly winds are expected in the Tehuantepec region later today through Fri as high pressure builds behind a Gulf of Mexico cold front. NW swell will build seas west of Baja California tonight through Sat. A larger set of NW swell may impact the waters north of Cabo San Lazaro Sun night through Mon night. Smoke from agricultural fires may reduce visibility at times in the waters south of Cabo Corrientes. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Moderate to locally fresh gap winds are ongoing in the Papagayo region this morning. Elsewhere, gentle to moderate winds prevail across the offshore waters. Seas are generally 4-6 ft based on overnight altimeter data. Scattered showers and thunderstorms continue offshore of Costa Rica, Panama, and Colombia per recent GOES lightning data. Visible satellite imagery shows smoke from agricultural fires persists over the waters off Guatemala and El Salvador. Fresh to occasionally strong gap winds will pulse in the Papagayo region through Mon. Smoke from agricultural fires in Central America may reduce visibility at times in the waters off Guatemala and El Salvador. A set of SW swell will move through the waters between Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands Mon and Mon night. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A high pressure ridge extends across the northern waters from 1024 mb high pressure centered near 33N131W. Moderate trades persist south of this ridge west of 120W. Locally higher winds and seas are likely occurring near a trough that extends from 10N129W to 03N132W this morning. Elsewhere, a decaying area of 7-8 ft seas in NW swell is found over the far northern waters between 128W and 132W. High pressure will persist across the northern waters through early next week. NW swell will move into the waters west of Baja California tonight and build seas to 8-10 ft east of 125W by Fri morning. The trough referenced above will move westward and pass west of 140W by Fri night, with fresh to locally strong winds and seas to 8 ft possible ahead of the axis on Fri.
