000 AXPZ20 KNHC 070839 TWDEP Tropical Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 0840 UTC Tue Apr 7 2020 Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from the Equator to 32N, east of 140W. The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0840 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A trough extends from 08N78W to 05N91W. The ITCZ continues from 05N91W to 03N117W to 05N140W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted from 04N to 08N between 88W and 110W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A cold front is located from 31N116W to 24N126W. Fresh to strong winds prevail over the northern Gulf of California ahead of the front. Gentle to moderate winds prevail elsewhere over the open waters off Baja California and SW Mexico. Behind the front seas are 4 to 6 ft, otherwise seas are generally 3 to 5 ft or less across the area. The cold front will enter the northern Gulf of California today, then dissipate tonight into Wed. High pressure will build in the wake of the front. As the ridge builds, fresh to locally strong winds are likely to develop off the west coast of Baja California Sur and offshore Cabo Corrientes Wed and Thu. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gentle to moderate winds prevail over the Gulf of Papagayo and Gulf of Panama. Elsewhere light to gentle winds prevail. Seas are in the 5 to 7 ft range between the Galapagos Islands and mainland Ecuador where SW swell is propagating across the area. Elsewhere, seas are less than 5 ft. The pressure gradient between high pressure N of the area and a surface trough over the equatorial waters will support pulses of fresh to strong NE winds each night in the Gulf of Papagayo region, starting tonight. Long- period SW swell prevailing across the southern waters will subside through midweek. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A cold front is located from 30N116W to 24N126W. High pressure is building in the wake of the front. The pressure gradient between the area of high pressure and lower pressure in the vicinity of the ITCZ is supporting mainly gentle to moderate tradewinds N of the ITCZ to 22N and W of 120W, where seas of 5-7 ft prevail. These general conditions will prevail today. Fresh trade winds will return late tonight, then strengthen Wed as high pressure builds over the northern waters in the wake of the front. $$ AL
