The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 2100 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends from 05N77W to 03N80W to 06N95W to 06N110W. The ITCZ extends from 06N110W to 04N117W to beyond 08N140W. Scattered moderate convection is noted within 60 nm of the trough between 90W and 98W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Recent scatterometer data showed moderate northerly winds across the Baja California offshore waters south of Punta Eugenia and over the southern Gulf of California, with fresh winds noted off the coast of Cabo Corrientes. Moderate winds were also occurring across the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Elsewhere, generally gentle winds prevailed over the remaining waters. Fresh northerly winds off the coast of Jalisco and over the Gulf of Tehuantepec will diminish tonight. An approaching cold front will produce strong SW winds Sun and Sun night in the northern Gulf of California, followed by strengthening winds and building seas west of Baja California late Sun night through Mon. Associated NW swell will propagate across the Baja California waters through mid week while gradually decaying. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Earlier scatterometer data revealed moderate easterly winds over the Papagayo region. Elsewhere, light to gentle winds prevail across the forecast waters, with wave heights less than 8 ft across the region. Fresh to strong winds will pulse across the Papagayo region tonight through the middle of next week. Fresh winds will pulse over the Gulf of Panama region through early next week, with strong winds expected Sun night. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A surface ridge extends from 30N131W southeastward to near the Revillagigedo Islands. Recent scatterometer data indicated moderate to locally fresh trade winds prevailed south of 20N and north of the ITCZ, west of about 115W. Combined seas in this region are generally 7-9 ft in this region, based on recent altimeter data. These trade winds will strengthen slightly west of 125W tonight, then diminish later this weekend. A frontal system will approach the far NW waters and stall west of 140W this weekend. Strong S to SE winds east of the front will build seas to 8-10 ft north of 20N and west of 135W Sun through Mon night. Looking ahead, a set of NW swell will build seas in the waters west of 130W Tue through Wed. Elsewhere, expect increasing winds and building seas in NW to N swell for the waters north of 20N and east of 130W Sun through Mon as a weakening cold front moves SE into the region. $$ Reinhart
