000 AXPZ20 KNHC 060137 TWDEP Tropical Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 135 UTC Thu Feb 6 2020 Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from the Equator to 32N, east of 140W. The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 00000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0130 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A trough axis extends from 06N77W to 04N91W to 07N115W. The ITCZ then extends from 07N115W to 08N125W to beyond 06N140W. Scattered moderate convection is located from 06N to 15N between 105W and 135W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Fresh winds in the Gulf of California will diminish to moderate levels overnight as the 1001 mb low pressure centered in Coahuila continues to move SE and away from the area. However, the pressure gradient will increase off the coasts of Nayarit and Jalisco in response to this low's movement, and strong N winds will result late tonight through Thu night. Decaying N swell off the W coast of Baja California continues to lead to seas of 8 to 9 ft this evening, but these seas will diminish to under 8 ft by early Thu morning. An approaching cold front may lead to strong winds Sun night and Mon over northern parts of the Gulf of California. As a cold front enters S Mexico and high pressure builds toward the region, strong N gap winds will evolve in the Gulf of Tehuantepec Thu night. Some near gale force winds are possible Fri, before winds diminish early Sat morning. Otherwise, gentle to moderate winds are expected elsewhere through the weekend. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Fresh to locally strong winds funneling across Central America into the Papagayo and Gulf of Panama regions are expected tonight. These winds will then diminish some, until high pressure building into the Caribbean will allow more fresh to strong winds to funnel into these areas Fri night into at least the start of next week. As a result of these winds, seas are likely to build to 8 to 10 feet offshore Nicaragua starting Sat night. Aside from the Papagayo and Gulf of Panama regions, gentle to moderate winds will prevail through the weekend due to an overall weak pressure gradient. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Seas N of about 10N and W of 115W range from 8 to 10 ft due to a combination of moderate to fresh trade winds and decaying N swell. As the pressure gradient between the ITCZ and high pressure to the N weakens for the end of the week, conditions will improve. A cold front may approach areas N of 25N by the end of the weekend, and this cold lead to some fresh to strong winds and higher seas into early next week. $$ KONARIK
