Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning: A ridge across the eastern slopes of the Sierra Madre mountains in Mexico and the western Gulf of Mexico currently supports gale force northerly winds of 30-40 kt over the Tehuantepec region, with maximum of 16 ft. Winds will decrease below gale force on Sun as the gradient weakens, then continue to diminish through Mon. Looking ahead, another Tehuantepec gale force wind event is forecast Tue night into Wed. The axis of a tropical wave is near 92W N of 05N, moving W at around 15 kt. Scattered moderate to isolated strong convection is noted where the wave meets the monsoon trough from 06N to 08N between 89W and 93W. The axis of a tropical wave is near 124W from 04N to 15N, moving W at 10 to 15 kt. Minimal deep convection is associated with the wave at present. The axis of a tropical wave is near 134W from 04N to 14N, moving west at 10 to 15 kt. Isolated to scattered moderate convection is noted from 07N to 10N between 130W and 134W. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from a 1008 mb over northern Colombia to 08N90W to 09N105W to 11N120W to 10N130W. The ITCZ extends from 08N135W to 07N140W. A cluster of moderate to strong convection is noted N of 04N E of 80W to the coast of Colombia, including the Gulf of Panama. Similar convection is also seen N of 06N between 80W and 83W. Scattered moderate convection is observed from 07N to 12N between 101W and 118W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Elsewhere, a ridge dominates the offshore forecast waters west of Baja California, supporting gentle to moderate northerly winds, and seas generally under 6 ft. Little change is expected through Tue. Expect gentle to moderate northerly winds across the Gulf of California this weekend with mainly variable winds afterwards. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... High pressure north of the Caribbean waters will support fresh to occasionally strong offshore winds across the Papagayo region through Mon night. Farther south, gentle to moderate S-SW monsoonal flow will continue across the offshore forecast waters of Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, and Ecuador through early next week. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A surface ridge extends from 1023 mb high pres near 34N129W to near the Revillagigedo Islands. The gradient between the ridge and lower pressures in the vicinity of the ITCZ/monsoon trough is supporting moderate to fresh NE trades N of them. No cold fronts are expected to reach the area during the next three or four days, and no significant long-period swell events are expected to impact the forecast region as well.
