The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 1500 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... Tropical Depression Gil is centered near 14.9N 125.3W at 04/1500 UTC moving W at 9 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 1009 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed is 25 kt with gusts to 35 kt. Scattered moderate convection is noted within 240 nm NE quadrant. Additional weakening is forecast during the next day or so, and Gil is expected to become a remnant low later today and dissipate by Monday night. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted from 07N to 16N between 96W and 100W. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from 09N78W to 09N87W to 11N97W to 10N140W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted from 06N to 08N east of 80W, and within 180 nm of the monsoon trough between 84W and 95W. Scattered moderate convection is occurring within 120 nm of the monsoon trough between 100W and 105W and between 117W and 140W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Overnight scatterometer data showed gentle to moderate NW flow prevailing off the coast of Baja California. A high pressure ridge will dominate the waters west of Baja California through the middle of next week with little change in wind and sea conditions. Southerly swell will propagate into the waters south of 20N later today and linger through the middle of next week. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Recent altimeter data reveals 4-5 ft seas in the offshore waters south of Panama within the gentle to moderate SW monsoon flow. Gentle to moderate S to SW winds south of the monsoon trough will increase to moderate to fresh Tue through Thu. Elsewhere, moderate to locally fresh NE winds will prevail north of the monsoon trough near the Gulf of Papagayo region for the next several days. Southerly swell will dominate the offshore waters through the upcoming week. Seas will build greater than 8 ft over the southern waters Wed through Thu as significant southerly swell moves across the region. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Please read the Special Features section for more details about Tropical Depression Gil. Elsewhere, high pressure centered near 31N140W maintains a ridge across the forecast waters north of 20N. Overnight scatterometer data depicted gentle to moderate NE to E winds between the ridge and TD Gil. Otherwise, generally light to gentle winds prevail across the forecast waters. Southerly swell covers much of the region south of 20N and east of 130W. A recent altimeter pass shows 8-9 ft seas south of 01S along 112W. Seas of 8 ft or greater associated with this swell will expand north of the Equator tonight, and will reach as far north as 09N between 93W and 105W by Tue. $$ Reinhart
