Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0900 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURE... Tropical Depression Dalila centered near 19.8N 118.8W at 24/0900 UTC moving NW at 5 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed is 30 kt with gusts to 40 kt. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is within 120 nm Se of the center. Dalila will continue to weaken as it moves to 20.4N 119.5W this afternoon, then become a remnant low Thu morning. Isolated convection is noted near the wave axis. A tropical wave is along 107W from 03N to 18N, moving W around 10 kt. Scattered moderate convection is observed along the wave axis from 10N to 18N. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from 08N77W to 11N100W to 08N113W, then continues SW of Dalila from 14N121W to 10N133W. Aside from convection associated with tropical waves and Dalila, Scattered moderate to strong convection is noted from 04N to 10N between 81W and 90W. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A weak ridge will dominate the offshore forecast waters west of Baja California through Fri. Light to gentle southerly winds are expected across the Gulf of California during the next several days. Northerly winds will increase to a fresh to strong breeze across the Tehuantepec region by late Thu night. This gap wind event is expected to persist through Sun. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Moderate to locally fresh S to SW winds south of the monsoon trough will generally maintain seas to 7 ft off the coasts of Panama and Colombia through Fri. Seas will also build to 8-9 ft near the equator Thu and Fri as long-period S swell moves into the region. Fresh to strong gap winds will develop in the Gulf of Papagayo on Thu in the wake of a passing tropical wave. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A ridge dominates most of the forecast waters N of 15N W of 120W. Recent scatterometer and altimeter data indicate moderate to fresh trade winds from 16N to 21N west of 135W with seas to 8 ft. Long period cross-equatorial southerly swell will build seas to around 8 ft along the Equator S of Galapagos tonight and Thu. $$ Mundell
