The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 2100 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A trough extends from 10N85W to 05.5N97W. The ITCZ continues from 05.5N97W to 07N120W. It then resumes W of a surface trough near 05N127W beyond 01N140W. Scattered moderate convection is from 04N to 08N between 80W and 97W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection was noted from 03N to 07N between 103W and 114W. Scattered to numerous moderate isolated strong convection is from 03N to 14N between 114W and 125W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A high pressure ridge extends south-southeastward over the NE Pacific waters from 32N128W to near the Revillagigedo Islands. The pressure gradient between the ridge and a surface trough over the Gulf of California is supporting gentle to moderate winds off the west coast of the Baja California peninsula. Seas over this area are in the 4-6 ft range. The ridge will stay in place through the end of the weekend, maintaining these winds and seas through the period. Ongoing agricultural burning, which are normally carried on during this time of year in SE Mexico and Central America, is generating smoke leading to hazy conditions along and adjacent to the coast of Mexico from Guerrero to the Gulf of Tehuantepec. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Fresh to strong winds over the Gulf of Papagayo. Seas are to 8 ft. Seas will diminish to 6 ft this evening. Moderate winds and 6 ft seas will prevail Thursday. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Surface ridging prevails across the northern waters. The pressure gradient between this area of high pressure and lower pressure in the vicinity of the ITCZ is supporting moderate to fresh trade winds N of the ITCZ to near 20N and W of 115W. An area of strong NE winds and 8 ft seas are forecast for Thursday evening from 07N to 10N between 127W and 130W. By Friday evening the area of 8 ft swell will expand but winds will diminish to fresh. A cold front will reach the NW forecast waters this evening. Winds ahead of the front will briefly strengthen Thursday into Friday before diminishing. The front is expected to dissipate by Sun evening. Cross-equatorial SW swell will reach the equator Thursday, with seas of 8 ft or 9 ft reaching the area near the equator and 120W Thursday evening.
