A high pressure ridge extends south-southeastward over the NE Pacific waters from 30N125W to near the Revillagigedo Islands. The pressure gradient between the ridge and a surface trough over the Gulf of California is supporting gentle to moderate winds off the west coast of the Baja California peninsula. Seas over this area are in the 4-6 ft range. The ridge will stay in place through the end of the weekend, maintaining these winds and seas through the period. Gulf of California: Gentle to moderate winds over the northern Gulf of California will diminish today, with light to gentle winds dominating the gulf waters through Sun. Ongoing agricultural burning, which are normally carried on during this time of year in SE Mexico and Central America, is generating smoke leading to hazy conditions along and adjacent to the coast of Mexico from Guerrero to the Gulf of Tehuantepec. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Fresh to strong winds over the Gulf of Papagayo will diminish later today. Afterwards, moderate winds will prevail during the daytime hours, pulsing to fresh during the overnight hours. Elsewhere, light to gentle winds and 4-6 ft seas will prevail. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Surface ridging prevails across the northern waters. The pressure gradient between this area of high pressure and lower pressure in the vicinity of the ITCZ is supporting moderate to fresh trade winds N of the ITCZ to near 20N and W of 115W. A cold front will reach the NW forecast waters this evening. Winds ahead of the front will briefly strengthen Thursday into Friday before diminishing. The front is expected to dissipate by Sun evening. Cross-equatorial SW swell will reach the equator Thursday, with seas of 8 ft or greater reaching the area near the equator and 120W late Thu. This will propagate through much of the forecast area east of 130W Fri through early Sun. Combined seas of 8 ft or higher will generally be confined to the waters south of 03N and west of 100W. $$ AL
