The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0900 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... Gulf of Tehunatepec Gale Warning: Gale-force northerly winds are forecast to start at 12Z today. The wind speeds will slow down to less than gale-force by the middle of the day on Saturday. The gale-force winds will develop near 15N95W at the onset of the event, and reach 13N96W on Friday night. The maximum wind speeds of 40 knots to 45 knots will start from late in the morning today on Friday, and they will end on Saturday morning. The extent of the wind speeds from 20 knots to 25 knots will reach downstream near 10N100W on Saturday morning. The maximum value for sea heights is 18 feet, near 13.5N96W, on Friday night. The maximum range of coverage of the 8 foot seas eventually will include the area that is from 07N northward between 94W and 104W, on Saturday night. A surface trough extends from 06N77W to 06N84W to 05N97W to 05N105W. The ITCZ is along 03N127W 04N134W beyond 03N140W. Scattered moderate to isolated strong rainshowers are within 150 nm to the north of the surface trough between 87W and 98W, within 75 nm to the south of the trough between 83W and 85W, and within 150 nm to the south of the trough between 92W and 94W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A surface ridge passes through 30N135W to 20N125W to 14N109W. Gentle to moderate NW wind flow is to the west of the Baja California. The wave heights were near 7 feet. Sea heights of 8 feet will enter the offshore waters, from 28N northward from 127W eastward, from Sunday afternoon until Tuesday afternoon. Gulf of California: Fresh to strong SW winds will start to develop on Saturday morning, with a low pressure center in the northern part of the Gulf of California. Expect these conditions to continue until Sunday morning, and then pulse during the Sunday nighttime hours. Gulf of Tehuantepec: Please read the SPECIAL FEATURES section for details about a gale warning. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gulf of Papagayo: Moderate to fresh NE to E winds will pulse at night, increasing to fresh to strong Sat evening as the pressure gradient tightens from southern Mexico to Costa Rica. Strong winds downstream will reach 09N and 91W on Sun morning with seas to 8 ft. Fresh to strong winds will continue to pulse every night through Tue, however seas are expected to be below 8 ft. Gulf of Panama: Mainly variable light to NE moderate winds are expected through early next week. Light to moderate wind speeds will prevail elsewhere across the waters west of Ecuador through Tue night. The sea heights will remain in the range from 6 feet to 7 feet, in SW swell through midweek. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A surface ridge passes through 30N135W to 20N125W to 14N109W. The pressure gradient between the ridge and lower pressure in the subtropics and tropics will result in moderate to fresh northeast to east trades from 05N to 17N W of 132W, during the next few days. A surface trough is along 05N131W 01N137. A second surface trough will develop along 07N117W 05N123W 02N126W. The wind speeds in the vicinity of the trough are forecast to increase to strong speeds beginning on Friday morning as the ridge builds some southward tightening the gradient. These winds will change little in speeds through early Tuesday as the gradient remains intact. $$ mt
