The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0900 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The ITCZ extends from 04N82W to 04N140W. Scattered moderate convection is seen from 04N to 07N between 107W and 112W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A cold front extends from 30N113W across the Gulf of California and Baja California to 25N118W to 23N127W. NW swell associated with the front will build seas to 8-12 ft in waters off Baja California Norte N of 23N by this evening. In the Gulf of California, strong SW winds N of 30N will become westerly and diminish as the front weakens today. A ridge will start to build over central California later today, and support strong NW winds in the central and southern Gulf Thu and Fri. Farther south, the coast of Mexico south of Cabo Corrientes can expect gentle NW winds and slight to moderate seas through this weekend. Looking ahead, strong gap winds will commence Fri over the Gulf of Tehuantepec in response to strong high pressure building behind a cold front moving into southern Mexico. Gap winds may reach strong gale force by Fri night with downstream seas peaking between 17 and 20 ft Sat night and Sun morning. A large area of 8 ft seas will develop westward from the Gulfs of Papagayo and Tehuantepec between 02N and 16N to beyond 120W by Sat night. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gulf of Papagayo: High pres over the western Caribbean will cause winds over the Gulf of Papagayo to increase to near gale force during the overnight and early morning hours through Sun night. Gulf of Panama: Strong to near gale force N to NE winds could affect the Gulf of Panama Fri through Sun night with sea heights building to 11 ft over the weekend. Elsewhere, gentle to moderate breezes will persist through Sun. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Moderate northerly winds prevail behind a weakening cold front reaching from 27N115W to 23N127W. Long period NW swell follows this front with building seas to 14 ft north of 25N. The front will dissipate over the forecast waters by this evening. Strong high pressure will build north of the area behind the cold front. The gradient between the strong high and developing low pressure north of Hawaii will support fresh to strong easterly winds from 07N to 16N W of 122W tonight through Fri. Long period SW swell will cause combined seas to build to 8 ft S of 02N between 100W and 120W by Thu evening. Seas in this area will remain near 8 ft through Sat night. $$ Mundell
