The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0830 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... Hurricane Eugene is centered near 18.1N 116.5W at 10/0900 UTC or about 470 nm SW of the southern tip of Baja California moving NW at 10 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 976 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed is 85 kt with gusts to 105 kt. Scattered to numerous moderate convection is within 150 nm of the center. Eugene will weaken further on Monday and Monday night and move NW across cooler waters. No significant deep convection is occurring with the wave at this time. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The Monsoon Trough axis extends from 10N86W to 13N95W to Low Pres 1011 mb 12N103W then resumes from 14N120W to 10N129W to 10N136W. The ITCZ extends from 10N136W to 11N140W. Scattered moderate and isolated strong convection is from 03N to 10N between 77W and 92W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... The area of tropical storm force winds is near Clarion currently as Eugene begins to gradually move NW of that island during the day on Monday. Fresh to strong winds and seas 10 to 14 ft along with occasional squalls are expected elsewhere across the Revillagigedo Islands through Monday. Elsewhere, moderate to fresh southerly flow will affect the waters beyond 210 nm off the coast of Baja California as Eugene moves NW roughly parallel to the peninsula through Wednesday. Large swell generated by the tropical cyclone will increase seas to 8-12 ft in this area. The pressure gradient between ridging W of Baja California Norte and troughing across the Baja California peninsula is supporting gentle to moderate southerly flow which is expected to persist through much of the week ahead. Farther south, brief pulses of moderate to occasional fresh winds are possible across the Gulf of Tehuantepec each late night into the early morning hours through Friday. Seas briefly building to 6-8 ft each morning. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Moderate to fresh nocturnal winds are expected across the Gulf of Papagayo the next couple of days. Gentle to moderate southerly winds are expected south of the Monsoon Trough axis. Long period cross-equatorial southerly swell and seas to 6-8 ft west of Colombia and Ecuador will continue through Tuesday night. Thereafter...5-7 ft seas in moderate S-SW winds are expected. Outside of this area, moderate to fresh trade winds will prevail N of the Monsoon Trough, while gentle to moderate southerly winds will be S of the trough axis.
