Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0830 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... Tropical Storm Eugene is centered near 12.9N 111.1W at 08/0900 UTC or about 610 nm SSW of the southern tip of Baja California moving NW at 8 kt. Maximum sustained wind speed is 40 kt with gusts to 50 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb. Numerous moderate and scattered strong convection is from 10N to 15N between 109W and 114W. The environment will remain favorable for Eugene to strengthen...and the system is forecast to become a hurricane within 36 hours. A tropical wave extends from the Gulf of Tehuantepec across the Isthmus of Tehuantepec and into the SW Gulf of Mexico waters moving W at 15 kt. Most active convection is noted on satellite imagery across interior portions of southern Mexico and the SW Gulf of Mexico waters. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The Monsoon Trough extends from 08N78W to 09N94W to 13N102W then resumes from 09N117W to 12N131W to 09N140W. Scattered moderate convection is from 02N to 07N E of 80W...from 06N to 13N between 93W and 97W...from 08N to 11N between 113W and 120W...and from 09N to 13N between 129W and 132W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A ridge extends across the waters W of Baja California from 28N130W to 21N116W. Gentle to moderate N-NW flow prevails W of the Baja California peninsula, moderate to occasional fresh N winds in the Gulf of Tehuantepec, and light to gentle winds across the Gulf of California. Seas are ranging 4-6 ft in the open waters W of Mexico, with 1-3 ft seas in the Gulf of California. Nocturnal winds will pulse to a max of 20 kt each night in the Gulf of Tehuantepec, then diminish during the day. Tropical Storm Eugene forecast to impact the PMZ015 offshore waters zone early on Sunday into Monday. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Moderate to locally fresh nocturnal winds are expected in the Gulf of Papagayo for the weekend. Gentle to moderate southerly winds are expected S of the Monsoon Trough.
