The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 1500 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... Hurricane Dora is centered near 17.3N 106.3W at 1500 UTC, moving west-northwest or 295 degrees at 11 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 985 mb. Maximum sustained winds are 75 kt with gusts to 90 kt. Numerous moderate and scattered strong convection is within 150 nm of the hurricane center. Dora will continue on a west-northwest track then begin a weakening trend Tuesday as the system moves over cooler waters and into a more stable environment. Large swell generated by Dora is affecting the coast of southwest Mexico, expected to spread northwestward to affect portions southern Baja California coast Tuesday. Heavy rainfall may affect coastal sections of Guerrero and Michoacan in Mexico. The monsoon trough extends from 09N83W to 07N97W, then resumes SW of Dora from 12N109W to 08N127W. The ITCZ continues from 08N127W to 05N140W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is from 06N to 09N between 82W and 96W, and from 12N to 14N between 91W and 94. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Outside of the influence of Dora, gentle to moderate winds prevail west of Baja California Norte with light to gentle winds off the coast of southwest Mexico and over the Gulf of California. Seas are 1-3 ft over the Gulf of California, and 4-6 ft elsewhere. Little change expected over the next several days. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gentle to moderate southwest to west winds are expected across most of the region, except for south winds between Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. Long period SW swell will sweep into the region tonight, expected to build seas up to 10 ft late Tuesday, except in the lee of the Galapagos Islands. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Light and variable winds prevail N of 25N W of 125W, with gentle to moderate winds elsewhere. Seas are generally 5-7 ft.
