The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 2100 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... An ill-defined monsoon trough extends from 10N87W to 10N95W to 07N105W. The ITCZ axis extends from 07N112W to 07N122W to 05N130W to beyond 04N140W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is within 45 nm either side of the axis west of 121W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Moderate to fresh northwest winds are off the coast of the Baja California peninsula. Light to gentle winds prevail over most of the Gulf of California. Gentle to moderate northwest to north winds elsewhere. Seas are 7-9 ft west of Baja California Norte in NW swell, highest north of 29N. Seas are 6-7 ft west of Baja California Sur, 1-3 ft in the Gulf of California, and 4-6 ft elsewhere. Wave model guidance suggests that the NW swell will subside through Friday night. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gentle to moderate south to southwest winds are west of Ecuador, with light to gentle southwest to west winds elsewhere, except light winds north of 09N. Seas are 5-7 ft west of Colombia, 6-8 ft west of Ecuador, and 4-6 ft elsewhere in southwest swell. The swell will propagate northward through Saturday, then begin to subside Saturday night and Sunday. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Strong high pressure centered north of the area near 35N139W extends a ridge southeastward to near the Revillagigedo Islands. The pressure gradient between the ridge and lower pressure near the ITCZ is maintaining moderate to fresh trades north of the ITCZ west of 120W. Seas in the trade wind belt are 6-8 ft from mixed northeast wind waves and northwest swell. The high will shift northeast and weaken this weekend, allowing the pressure gradient to relax with winds and seas diminishing. $$ Mundell
