The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0900 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from 16N97W to 08N109W. The ITCZ extends from 08N109W to 04N124W to beyond 05N140W. Scattered moderate convection is noted within 60 nm either side of the ITCZ between 117W and 127W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection was noted within 60 nm either side of the ITCZ west of 134W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Moderate to fresh winds prevail off the coast of the Baja California peninsula. Light to gentle winds prevail over the Gulf of California. Gentle to moderate winds prevail elsewhere. Seas are in the 7-8 ft range off the coast of Baja California Norte, 6-7 ft off the coast of Baja California Sur, 1-3 ft over the Gulf of California, and 4-6 ft elsewhere. The northwesterly swell will continue to subside, with seas falling below 8 ft west of Baja California Norte Friday night. Otherwise winds and seas will remain below advisory criteria. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gentle to moderate winds prevail over the offshore waters west of Ecuador while light to gentle winds prevail elsewhere. Seas are in the 5-7 ft range in southwest swell over the southern waters and 4-6 ft over the northern waters. The southwesterly swell will continue to propagate across the southern waters, with seas building to 6-8 ft by Friday and continuing through the weekend before diminishing below 8 ft by early next week. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... High pressure of 1029 mb, centered northwest of the area near 35N140W, extends a ridge southeastward to near the Revillagigedo Islands. The pressure gradient between the ridge and lower pressure in the vicinity of the ITCZ is maintaining moderate to fresh trades north of the ITCZ west of 120W. Seas in this trade- wind belt are in the 6-9 ft range in mixed northeast wind waves and northwest swell. High pressure will shift further from the area through the weekend, loosening the pressure gradient over the forecast area.
