The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0900 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends from 08N78W to 08N87W to 09N95W to 08N101W to 08N108W. The ITCZ axis extends from 08N108W to 06N124W to 05N140W. Scattered moderate convection is from S of 08N E of 80W...from 03N to 09N between 88W and 97W...from 04N to 08N between 100W and 106W...from 06N to 10N between 108W and 114W...and from 04N to 08N W of 125W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Latest observations indicate light to gentle winds across the Gulf of California with seas in the 1-3 ft range. Generally light to moderate winds are occurring across the Gulf of Tehuantepec region per a recent ASCAT pass around 03/0358 UTC with seas in the 4-6 ft range. Elsewhere...gentle to moderate winds with seas in the 4-6 ft range prevail. Conditions will remain within the winds 20 kt or less and seas less than 8 ft criteria through Thursday. A strong cold front will move across the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday night late into early Thursday and reach the Bay of Campeche mid-day Thursday. Winds will funnel through the Chivela Pass and strengthen across the Gulf of Tehuantepec Thursday night. Winds will further increase to gale force Friday morning. Winds in this gale force gap wind event will peak near 40 kt Friday afternoon...with seas peaking near 15 ft Friday night. Thereafter...winds will diminish below gale force by Saturday morning. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Light to gentle winds...with seas in the 4-6 ft range prevail across the forecast waters. Active convection continues off the coasts of eastern Panama and western Colombia near 07N78W and off the coasts of Nicaragua and El Salvador near 13N88W this morning. Winds are expected to remain 20 kt or less with seas less than 8 ft through the end of the week. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... High pressure of 1026 mb centered N of the area near 37N131W extends a ridge SW to the NE of the Hawaiian Islands near 25N153W. Another ridge axis extends from near 22N130W SE to near 13N108W. The pressure gradient between this area of high pressure and lower pressure in the vicinity of the ITCZ is supporting gentle to moderate trades with seas in the 5-7 ft range N of the ITCZ. A cold front will approach the NW waters Thursday which will freshen winds across this area Thursday night into Friday. The fresh winds will spread eastward along with the front and usher in a fresh set of northwesterly swell with seas greater than 8 ft moving into the NW waters Thursday night late covering much of the area N of 22N W of 120W by Saturday.
