The ITCZ has shifted south of the equator, and minimal random convection is occurring in the discussion area at this time. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A surface ridge west of Baja California will shift slowly west through Saturday. Gentle to moderate west to northwest flow west of 105W will diminish to a light to gentle breeze by Sunday, except for a narrow swath of moderate NW winds near 19.5N105.5W. Gulf of Tehuantepec: Strong northerly winds will develop again tonight across and downstream of the Gulf of Tehuantepec, and continue through sunrise on Saturday morning, with the maximum seas building to 10 ft near 14.5N95W. Another gap event will develop late Sunday night and again Monday night, with guidance suggesting a brief period of gale winds possible Tuesday evening. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gulf of Papagayo: A swath of strong NE winds are expected across the waters from 10N to 11N between 86W-89W tonight. The strong winds will create NE swell that will mix with cross equatorial SW swell, creating an area of seas to 8 ft near 08N98W tonight. Light to gentle winds and combined seas of 4-6 ft are occurring elsewhere outside of the swells originating near the gap events. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A nearly stationary surface high centered near 33N129W supports a broad ridge over the forecast area with fresh ne trades across the tropics from 07N to 15N west of 114W, which will continue for a few more days. Mixed swell will produce combined 7-9 ft seas across the area through early Monday. $$ Mundell
