Based on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0300 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... Surface trough from 01N88W to 02N102W. ITCZ from 03N110W to 06N121W to 04N140W. No significant convection at this time. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A surface ridge will meander from roughly 21N116W to 14N98W through the upcoming weekend. Gentle to moderate NW flow is expected west of 105W through Saturday, except for a narrow swath of fresh NW winds forecast near 19.5N105.5W briefly on Friday evening. Gulf of Tehuantepec: Strong to near gale force northerly winds will continue across and downstream of the Gulf of Tehuantepec through sunrise on Saturday morning, with the maximum seas building to 10-11 ft near 14.5N95W overnight. The next gap high wind event is expected begin Monday night, with model guidance suggesting gale conditions are possible by Tuesday evening. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gulf of Papagayo: A moderately large area of strong NE winds is expected across the waters from 09N to 12N between 86W and 90W mainly during late night hours tonight and again Friday night. Guidance suggests one last brief nocturnal surge Saturday night. These strong winds will create NE swell that will propagate SW, resulting in an area of combined seas to 9 ft near 08N93W. Light to gentle winds and combined seas of 4-6 ft are occurring elsewhere, outside of NE swell originating near the gap winds. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... Nearly stationary high pressure centered near 33N131W maintains a broad ridge over the forecast area. A small area of strong NE trades across the tropics near 10N138W will diminish to a fresh breeze overnight.
