Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 1545 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... A surface trough extends w from 03N86W to 02N94W to 03N107W to where scatterometer winds indicate that the ITCZ forms, and continues w along 03N107W to 06N120W to 05N140W. Scattered moderate isolated strong convection is noted from 00N to 06N between 87W and 98W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... A surface ridge will meander from roughly 21N116W to 14N98W through the upcoming weekend. Gentle to moderate w to nw flow is expected w of 105W through mid day on Fri, then a narrow swath of fresh nw winds forecast near 19.5N105.5W briefly on Fri evening. Gulf of Tehuantepec: Strong to near gale force northerly winds will continue across and downstream of the Gulf of Tehuantepec through sunrise on Sat morning, with the maximum seas building to 11 ft near 14.5N95W tonight. The next gap event will begin on Mon night, with guidance suggesting gale conditions on Tue evening. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Gulf of Papagayo: A large area of strong ne winds are expected across the waters from 09N to 12.5N between 86W and 90W mainly during the late night hours tonight and again on Fri night. Guidance suggests one last brief nocturnal surge on Sat night. These strong winds will create a ne swell that will propagate sw mixing with cross equatorial sw swell resulting in an area of seas to ft near 08N93W. Gulf of Panama: Moderate to fresh nocturnal flow expected for the next few nights. Light to gentle winds, and combined seas of 3 to 6 ft, are occurring elsewhere outside of the swells originating near the gap events. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A nearly stationary surface high is centered near 33N131W and is maintaining broad ridging over the forecast area. A small area of strong ne trades across the tropics near 15N138W will diminish to a fresh breeze tonight.
