Gulf of Tehuantepec Gale Warning...High pressure building north of the area will tighten the pressure gradient across the area. This will increase the strength of winds funneling through the Chivela pass into the Gulf of Tehuantepec. Gap winds will strengthen to 25 kt tonight and further increase to minimal gale force Tuesday. The gale force winds are expected to continue through the remainder of the week. The persistent gale force gap wind event will create a plume of 8 to 12 ft seas extending several hundred miles from shore. The monsoon trough extends from 08N84W to 06.5N89W to 07N94W. The ITCZ extends from 07N94W to 06.5N104W to 08N115W to 05N135W to 05N140W. Scattered moderate convection was noted within 60 nm of the monsoon trough between 92W and 94W. Scattered moderate convection was noted within 60 nm north of the ITCZ between 100W and 108W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... Elsewhere, in the Gulf of California, fresh to strong northwest winds will develop tonight and continue through much of the week. Northwesterly swell with 8 to 9 ft seas off the coast of Baja California will subside below 8 ft this evening as it propagates. A cold front will approach the Baja California waters early in the week, but stall west of the area. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Fresh to strong gap winds will develop in the Gulf of Papagayo this evening as high pressure builds north of the area and tightens the pressure gradient over the area. Elsewhere across the region, winds will remain 20 kt or less, with seas below 8 ft through early next week. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... A cold front extends from 30N123W TO 26N128W TO 28N140W. Strong winds are found both ahead of and behind the cold front. The front will usher in a fresh set of northwesterly swell with seas of 8 to 12 ft propagating into the area. Low pressure along the front will drift south of 30N tonight, then stall and weaken to a trough near 28N122W by late Tuesday. High pressure building behind the front will support fresh to strong trades north of the ITCZ to 20N and west of 125W into mid week. $$ AL
