000 AXPZ20 KNHC 290900 TWDEP Tropical Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 637 UTC Tue Nov 29 2016 Tropical Weather Discussion for the eastern Pacific Ocean from the Equator to 32N, east of 140W. The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar, and meteorological analysis. Based on 0600 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0900 UTC. ...INTERTROPICAL CONVERGENCE ZONE/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from 11N85W to 11N107W to 09N111W where it transitions to ITCZ. The ITCZ then extends to 11N115W to 10N122W to 09N140W. Scattered moderate to strong convection was noted within 120 nm north and 90 nm south of the ITCZ between 125W and 131W. ...DISCUSSION... OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF MEXICO... NW swell persists the offshore waters along the western coast of the Baja California peninsula with seas in the 8 to 11 ft range. Seas over the remainder of the offshore waters of Mexico are in the 4-7 ft range, with seas 1-3 ft over the Gulf of California. Continued pulses of northwesterly swell will maintain seas at 8 ft or above off the coast of the Baja California Norte through Thursday. Building high pressure over the Great Basin of the United States will increase winds to fresh to strong over the Gulf of California N of 30N this afternoon. These winds will spread southward to near 28N by this evening. A cold front moving across the Gulf of Mexico will bring the next Gulf of Tehuantepec gap wind event toward the end of the week. Winds are expected to remain below gale force during this next event, and the duration is expected to be much shorter than the previous event. OFFSHORE WATERS WITHIN 250 NM OF CENTRAL AMERICA, COLOMBIA, AND WITHIN 750 NM OF ECUADOR... Light to gentle winds and seas in the 4 to 6 ft range are noted north of 10N, with moderate to locally fresh southwest flow and combined seas of 4 to 6 ft south of 10N. Seas will gradually subside to 4 to 5 ft by Thursday. REMAINDER OF THE AREA... High pressure of 1029 mb centered north-northwest of the area near 33N140W extends a ridge southeast to near the Revillagigedo Islands. The pressure gradient between the area of high pressure and lower pressure in the vicinity of the ITCZ is producing a large area of fresh to strong northeast to east winds north of the ITCZ to near 23N and west of 127W. Resultant seas are in the 9 to 13 ft range. High pressure will weaken slightly today which will decrease areal coverage of strong trades. Continued pulses of northwesterly swell will maintain seas of 8 ft or greater over much of the area north of the ITCZ through the remainder of the week. $$ AL
