The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis. Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 2252 UTC. ...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ... The monsoon trough extends from 05N08.5W to 01.5N23W. The ITCZ continues from 01.5N23W to 03S41W. Scattered moderate convection is found from 05S to 06N along both the monsoon trough and the ITCZ. ...GULF OF AMERICA... High pressure prevails over the Gulf, anchored by a 1020 mb high centered near 27N83W. Gentle to moderate winds prevail over the waters W of 94W, with light to gentle winds elsewhere. Seas are in the 4-5 ft range W of 94W, and 2-3 ft elsewhere. For the forecast, weak high pressure centered just west of Tampa, Florida will change little through early Thu allowing for moderate to fresh southerly winds to exist over the far western Gulf. Otherwise, rather tranquil marine conditions are expected over the majority of the basin through the end of the week. A weak and mostly dry cold front may move off the Texas Thu morning. The moderate to fresh southerly winds will diminish at this time. The front is expected to reach the southeastern Gulf Thu night. Fresh northerly winds west of the front will diminish Fri afternoon as high pressure builds in the wake of the front. Southeast winds are expected to increase slightly over the central and western Gulf starting Sun. ...CARIBBEAN SEA... A stationary front extends from eastern Cuba to eastern Honduras. Gentle to locally moderate winds, and seas of 2-4 ft prevail W of the front. Moderate to fresh winds, and seas of 6-7 ft, are over the SE waters. Gentle to moderate winds, and seas of 4-6 ft are elsewhere E of 77W. Light to gentle winds, and seas of 2-4 ft prevail elsewhere. For the forecast, the aforementioned stationary front will dissipate late tonight. Moderate to fresh winds offshore Colombia will strengthen toward the end of the week. Mainly moderate to locally fresh winds will prevail elsewhere in the central and eastern Caribbean through Fri as well as the Tropical N Atlantic. These winds will gradually expand in coverage through the upcoming weekend. Fresh to strong NE winds are forecast to develop in the lee of Cuba and in the Windward Passage early next week. ...ATLANTIC OCEAN... A cold front extends from 31N62W to the eastern tip of Cuba. A large area of fresh to strong SW winds is found ahead of the front, N of 26N between 54W and 64W. Behind the front, NW fresh to strong winds prevail, N of 29N between 64W and 68W. Seas over these waters are in the 8-13 ft range. Gentle to moderate winds are found west of the front, W of 68W, with seas 4-8 ft. Moderate to fresh winds, and seas of 5-8 ft prevail elsewhere. For the forecast, the aforementioned cold front will stall and begin to weaken as it reaches from near 31N60W to 25N65W and to Hispaniola tonight then dissipate Thu. Marine will improve over the north- central waters tonight. Active weather will continue E of the front tonight N of 25N. The next cold front is expected to move offshore the southeastern United States Thu night. This front will reach from near 31N73W to east-central Cuba early Fri and from near 31N65W to NW Haiti Fri night, then stall and weaken Sat. Fresh to strong winds are expected on either side of the front N of about 27N Fri. High pressure will settle over the western part of the area Sat and Sat night allowing for generally calm conditions over most of the area. Yet another cold front will move across the western and central forecast waters Sun and Sun night, reaching the eastern part of the area Mon and Mon night, at which time fresh to strong north to northeast winds are expected south of about 28N and west of the front. $$ KRV
