The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis. Based on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0540 UTC. ...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ... The monsoon trough passes through the coastal border areas of Sierra Leone and Guinea near 07N11W, to 06N14W. The ITCZ continues from 06N14W, to 05N23W, 06N33W, to 05N44W. One surface trough is along 15N42W 07N45W. A second surface trough is along 48W/49W from 01N to 09N. Precipitation: isolated to widely scattered moderate and locally strong is from 19N southward from 56W eastward. GULF OF MEXICO... Broad upper level W wind flow spans the Gulf of Mexico. The cold front has moved through the entire Gulf of Mexico already. High pressure has been building into the Gulf of Mexico, during the last few days. Broad surface anticyclonic wind flow spans the entire Gulf of Mexico. Northerly winds will diminish across the basin through Wednesday, as high pressure builds across the region. Southerly winds will increase in the western Gulf of Mexico from Thursday night through Saturday. A cold front will move into the NW Gulf of Mexico on Saturday night, and then extend from northern Florida to southern Texas on Sunday night. CARIBBEAN SEA... A cold front passes through the Windward Passage, and it reaches NE Nicaragua. Precipitation: isolated moderate is within 60 nm on either side of the cold front. Broad upper level anticyclonic wind flow covers the Caribbean Sea. The monsoon trough is along 08N/10N from 73W in N Colombia, beyond Costa Rica. Precipitation: isolated moderate to locally strong is from 13N southward from 72W westward to the coast of the countries of Central America. The current cold front, from the Windward Passage to northern Nicaragua, will extend from Hispaniola to Costa Rica on Wednesday night. The front will stall and weaken across the western Caribbean Sea on Thursday. Strong northerly winds are expected to the west of the front through Wednesday. Fresh NE winds will prevail elsewhere in the NW Caribbean Sea through Thursday. ATLANTIC OCEAN... A cold front passes through 32N59W to 22N70W, to the Windward Passage, and into the Caribbean Sea to the NE coast of Nicaragua. Precipitation: isolated to widely scattered moderate and locally strong is within 180 nm to the east of the cold front, from 25N northward. A surface ridge passes through 32N39W, to Puerto Rico. Surface anticyclonic wind flow covers the Atlantic Ocean from 17N northward from the cold front eastward. The current cold front, that is extending from 26N65W to the Windward Passage, will stall and weaken from 24N65W to Hispaniola, from Wednesday through Thursday. High pressure will build across the forecast area on Thursday. Southerly winds will increase to the east of Florida on Sunday, in advance of a cold front that is expected to move off northern Florida on Sunday night. $$ mt/dm
