The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis. Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 2345 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... Tropical Storm Paulette is centered near 17.5N 42.4W at 07/2100 UTC or 1180 nm E of the northern Leeward Islands moving NW at 3 kt. Estimated minimum central pressure is 1005 mb. Maximum sustained wind speed is 35 kt with gusts to 45 kt. Numerous moderate to isolated strong convection is from 16N-20N between 39W-44W. A slow motion toward the northwest or north-northwest is expected tonight. Paulette is then forecast to move a little faster and generally westward on Tuesday and Wednesday. Modest strengthening is expected during the next couple of days. Maximum sustained wind speed is 35 kt with gusts to 45 kt. Scattered moderate convection is from 08N-19N E of 31W. On the forecast track, the center of the cyclone is will pass near or over the Cabo Verde Islands tonight and early Tuesday. Gradual strengthening is forecast, and Rene could become a hurricane in a two or three days. A tropical wave extends S of 20N with axis near 67W, moving W at 20 kt. Isolated showers are in the Mona Passage. A tropical extends S of 19N with axis near 79W, moving W at 10 kt. Scattered moderate convection and tstms are from 15N to 22N between 74W and 84W. ...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ... The monsoon trough extends from 14N25W to 16N37W, then resumes near 13N45W to 10N53W. The ITCZ begins near 10N53W and continues to 11N61W. Aside from the convection associated with the tropical waves above, scattered moderate convection is from 09N-15N between 39W-53W. GULF OF MEXICO... A stationary front extends across the northern Florida Peninsula with high pres over the Carolinas building in across the Gulf. This front will gradually dissipate through mid- week. A surface trough over the SW gulf of mexico will linger tonight before dissipating. CARIBBEAN SEA... Two tropical waves are over the Caribbean Sea. See tropical waves section above. Tropical Storm Paulette is near 17.5N 42.4W 1005 mb at 5 PM EDT moving NW at 3 kt. A tropical wave stretching southward from the Cayman Islands to Panama will move west across the western Caribbean through Tue then move across central America by Tue night.
