000 AXNT20 KNHC 222258 TWDAT Tropical Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 658 PM EDT Wed Apr 22 2020 Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis. Based on 1800 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 2200 UTC. ...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ... The monsoon trough passes from the coast of Sierra Leone near 08N13W to 00N28W. Scattered moderate to isolated strong convection is from 00N to 07N between 14W and 20W. Scattered moderate convection is located from 00N to 08N between 24W and 52W. GULF OF MEXICO... As of 22/2100 UTC, a cold front is located from near Sarasota Florida to near 28N85W. From there there front has become stationary, NW to near Gulfport MS. No showers are occurring with this front. To the S of this front, a wide area of fresh to strong S winds encompass much of the Gulf. A developing low pressure system over the U.S. southern plains will pull fresh to strong SE to S winds across the basin through Thu. The low will drag a cold front across the northern Gulf Thu through Fri. A second cold front will move into the NW Gulf Fri night, then extend from S Florida to the SW Gulf Sun. CARIBBEAN SEA... Moderate to fresh trade winds are occurring in the Caribbean Sea. A few showers are located around the Greater Antilles. Moderate convection is located along the coast of Colombia. Strong E to SE winds will pulse at night over the Gulf of Honduras through Sat night, in response to low pres passing over the SE United States. A high pres ridge over the western Atlc will maintain fresh to strong trade winds over the S central Caribbean tonight through Sun. Moderate to fresh trades are expected elsewhere Thu through Sat. ATLANTIC OCEAN... At 22/2100 UTC, a cold front was located from 31N59W to 21N77W. Scattered showers and thunderstorms are occurring within about 90 nm S of the boundary, mainly E of 65W. Another faster moving cold front stretches from 31N69W to West Palm Beach FL near 26N80W. This front is void of precipitation. Behind this second front, high pressure that has moved off the Carolinas' coast is building into the western Atlantic. In the eastern Atlantic, a dissipating cold front stretches from 31N23W to 28N30W. Showers associated with this front have diminished. The second cold front will move east and merge with the initial western Atlantic cold front tonight. The combined front will then stall Thu, and dissipate Fri over the central Atlantic. The next cold front will head E from the SE United States coast Fri through Sat morning. Strong to near gale force S to SW winds are expected ahead of this front N of the Bahamas Thu through Fri.
