The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis. Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 1700 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURE... High pressure north of the area will support fresh to strong easterly winds across the south-central Caribbean through the weekend, pulsing to gale-force tonight off Colombia and near-gale force each night thereafter. The monsoon trough extends from the coast of Africa near 05N08W to 00N15W. The ITCZ continues from 00N15W to 01N25W to the coast of Brazil near 02S42W. Scattered moderate convection is noted along and in the vicinity of both boundaries mainly south of 07N. GULF OF MEXICO... A dissipating frontal boundary was analyzed as a surface trough that extends across the Straits of Florida from 24N81W to 23N84W. A pair of surface troughs extend over the southwest Gulf waters with no significant convection. The first is from 22N89W to 19N92W while the second one is from 23N97W to 20N96W. Surface ridging prevails across the remainder of the basin, anchored by a 1029 mb high centered inland over western Georgia. Scatterometer data depicts gentle to moderate anticyclonic winds across the basin. High pressure will continue building in the wake of the front and will prevail through the weekend. The next cold front will move into the northwest Gulf by Sunday night. CARIBBEAN SEA... Gale-force winds are expected to develop tonight across the south-central Caribbean. Refer to the section above for details. High pres north of the area supports moderate to fresh trades across the central Caribbean, while moderate northeasterly winds prevail elsewhere, except near the Windward Passage at night tonight and Thu night, where fresh to strong winds are expected. Fresh easterly swell will build in the tropical Atlantic by the end of the week. ATLANTIC OCEAN... A cold front enters the waters at 31N68W to 24N80W. Showers are noted along the front. To the east, a surface trough extends from 28N65W to 25N66W with scattered showers mainly between 58W-65W. Surface ridge prevails elsewhere, anchored by a 1037 mb high centered near 39N36W. The cold front will stall from near 30N65W to the Straits of Florida by tonight. High pressure will build in the wake of the front over the west Atlantic and prevail through the weekend.
