GORDON INFORMATION AT 03/1800 UTC Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis. Based on 1200 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 1700 UTC. ...SPECIAL FEATURES... The center of Tropical Storm GORDON at 03/1800 UTC is near 25.8N 81.9W, or about 13 nm/25 km to the WSW of Marco Island in Florida. GORDON is moving WNW, or 300 degrees, 14 knots. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1007 mb. The maximum sustained wind speeds are 45 knots with gusts to 55 knots. Scattered moderate to strong rainshowers are within 180 nm to the NE of the center, and within 150 nm to the SE of the center. Widely scattered moderate to isolated strong rainshowers cover the rest of the area that is within 150 nm to the NW of the center. Widely scattered moderate to isolated strong rainshowers also are between 75W and 83W in the waters and inland, as far to the north as the coastal areas of South Carolina. Rainshowers cover the Bahamas from Andros Island northward from 77W westward, and Florida from 28N southward, including across the Florida Keys and the Straits of Florida. Widely scattered moderate to isolated strong rainshowers are within 240 nm of the center in the NE quadrant. A Caribbean Sea tropical wave is along 20N65W 15N69W to NW Venezuela near 08N72W. Isolated moderate rainshowers cover the areas that are from 16N to 20N between 65W and 71W, across parts of western Puerto Rico and surrounding waters, in the Mona Passage, and in the coastal waters of the Dominican Republic. A tropical wave moving through the NW corner of the Caribbean Sea, moving inland, along 89W/90W, from 19N southward, through Guatemala and El Salvador, into the eastern Pacific Ocean. Isolated moderate rainshowers are in the NW corner of the Caribbean Sea, and in southern sections of Belize, and in Guatemala just to the south of Belize. ...MONSOON TROUGH/ITCZ... The monsoon trough passes through the coastal sections of Senegal and Guinea-Bissau near 12N17W, to 08N21W, to 09N27W, and from 12N39W to 08N42W and 07N46W. The ITCZ continues from 07N46W to 08N51W and 07N57W. Scattered to numerous strong rainshowers are from 09N to 11N between 17W and 19W, and from 07N to 09N between 20W and 24W. Widely scattered moderate to isolated strong rainshowers are elsewhere from 04N to 14N from 27W eastward. Isolated moderate to locally strong rainshowers are from 12N southward between 40W and 60W. ...DISCUSSION... GULF OF MEXICO... An upper level cyclonic circulation center is just to the NW of the NW coast of Cuba, about 180 nm to the SW of GORDON. GORDON is forecast to have a NW trajectory during the next 48 hours. Upper level anticyclonic wind flow covers the rest of the Gulf of Mexico. An upper level cyclonic circulation center is inland in Mexico. Upper level cyclonic wind flow covers the area from 23N southward from the SW corner of the Gulf of Mexico to 103W in Mexico. CARIBBEAN SEA... An upper level trough extends from the NW Cuba cyclonic circulation center to the Gulf of Honduras/southern Belize. Isolated moderate to locally strong rainshowers cover the NW corner of the Caribbean Sea from 15N northward from 80W westward. A separate upper level cyclonic circulation center is in the Jamaica Channel. A tropical wave, that is moving across the Mona Passage, will pass through the western Caribbean Sea by mid week. Fresh to strong winds will continue near the coast of Colombia through tonight. A relatively weak ridge, that is to the north of the region, will maintain moderate to fresh trade winds across most of the region through the start of the weekend. ATLANTIC OCEAN...
