000 AXNT20 KNHC 250554 TWDAT Tropical Weather Discussion NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL 1254 AM EST Sat Nov 25 2017 Tropical Weather Discussion for North America, Central America Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, northern sections of South America, and Atlantic Ocean to the African coast from the Equator to 32N. The following information is based on satellite imagery, weather observations, radar and meteorological analysis. Based on 0000 UTC surface analysis and satellite imagery through 0430 UTC. ...ITCZ/MONSOON TROUGH... The monsoon trough extends from the African coast near 11N15W to 06N21W. The Intertropical Convergence Zone extends from 06N21W to 06N38W. Scattered moderate convection is from 03N to 08N between 09W and 14W. ...DISCUSSION... GULF OF MEXICO... High pressure dominates the Gulf of Mexico tonight with a 1018 mb high centered over the Alabama/Georgia border, and a 1015 mb high centered over the SW Gulf near 23N95W. These high pressure centers are supporting fair weather over the basin. Light to gentle winds cover the western Gulf. Gentle to moderate winds cover the eastern Gulf. Little change is expected through Sunday. A weak trough of low pressure with showers may develop Sunday night over the SE Gulf. CARIBBEAN SEA... The tail end of a cold front is over the NW Caribbean from W Cuba at 22N81W to 19N85W. Deep moisture in SW flow covers the Caribbean betweenthe cold front and 74W to support scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms. A surface trough extends over the SW gulf from 15N79W to 10N76W. This trough is interacting with a moist air mass to support widely scattered moderate convection S of 15N and W of 73W. Gentle to moderate NW winds are west of 82W, except fresh near the coast of Honduras and Nicaragua. Mainly moderate easterly trades cover the Caribbean E of 82W. Over the next 24 hours the front will dissipate. Otherwise little change is expected. ...HISPANIOLA... Isolated showers and thunderstorms continue over the area tonight as moist SW flow aloft prevails over the region. Little change is expected through Sunday. ATLANTIC OCEAN... A 1008 mb low is centered near 30.5N78W. A cold front extends from this low to the Bahamas near 25N78W to Cuba near 23N80W. The combination of this cold front and an upper trough to the west supports scattered moderate convection N of 26N within 450 nm E of a line from 31N73W to 25N78W. Farther east, a cold front extends from 31N53W to 25N60W. No significant convection is noted with this front. A 1001 mb low is centered near 30N36W. This low supports a cold front that enters the area of discussion near 31N20W to 24N23W to 21N33W to 22N40W. Scattered moderate convection is N of 25N between 16W and 21W.
