DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 800 AM PDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Carlos was located near latitude 11.3 North, longitude 128.6 West. Carlos is moving toward the west-southwest near 8 mph (13 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue for the next day or so followed by a turn to the west. Maximum sustained winds are near 40 mph (65 km/h) with higher gusts. Slow weakening is forecast over the next couple of days, and Carlos is expected to become a tropical depression later today and then degenerate to a remnant low by midweek. Carlos is a small tropical cyclone. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1004 mb (29.65 inches).
