DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 400 PM CDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Blas was located near latitude 15.1 North, longitude 103.1 West. Blas is moving toward the west-northwest near 6 mph (9 km/h) and this motion is expected to continue over the next several days with gradual acceleration. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next 24 hours followed by gradual weakening through the end of the week. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 980 mb (28.94 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Blas are affecting the coast of southwestern Mexico and are likely to continue over the next several days.
