DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 1000 PM CDT (0300 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Blas was located near latitude 15.3 North, longitude 102.3 West. Blas is moving toward the north near 5 mph (7 km/h), and should turn to the northwest overnight, and to the west-northwest by late Wednesday. Blas is expected to continue moving west-northwestward through Thursday. Maximum sustained winds are near 50 mph (85 km/h) with higher gusts. Some strengthening is forecast during the next 48 hours. Blas is expected to become a hurricane tomorrow with further strengthening possible on Thursday. Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 70 miles (110 km) from the center. The estimated minimum central pressure is 1000 mb (29.53 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Blas are expected to reach the coast of southwestern Mexico tonight.
