DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Linda was located near latitude 19.1 North, longitude 117.0 West. Linda is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h). A turn toward the west is anticipated tonight, followed by a turn toward the west-southwest early next week. Maximum sustained winds remain near 130 mph (215 km/h) with higher gusts. Linda is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some fluctuations in intensity are possible through this evening. However, a steady weakening trend is forecast to commence by early Sunday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 950 mb (28.06 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Linda are expected to affect portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and the southern and western coast of Baja California Sur over the next few days.
