DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 300 AM MDT (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Linda was located near latitude 18.4 North, longitude 114.8 West. Linda is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h) A turn toward the west is anticipated by early Sunday morning, followed by a turn toward the west-southwest early next week. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 125 mph (205 km/h) with higher gusts. Linda is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some fluctuations in intensity are possible through the afternoon, however, a steady weakening trend is forecast to commence by tonight. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles (205 km). A wind gust to 106 mph (170 km/h) was recently measured by a Mexican Navy weather observation site on Clarion Island. The estimated minimum central pressure is 960 mb (28.35 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Linda are expected to affect portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and the southern and western coast of Baja California Sur over the next few days.
