DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK
----------------------
At 300 AM MDT (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Linda was located
near latitude 18.4 North, longitude 114.8 West. Linda is moving
toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h)  A turn toward the
west is anticipated by early Sunday morning, followed by a turn
toward the west-southwest early next week.
 
Maximum sustained winds have increased to 125 mph (205 km/h) with
higher gusts.  Linda is a category 3 hurricane on the
Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.  Some fluctuations in
intensity are possible through the afternoon, however, a steady
weakening trend is forecast to commence by tonight.
 
Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles
(205 km).  A wind gust to 106 mph (170 km/h) was recently measured
by a Mexican Navy weather observation site on Clarion Island.
 
The estimated minimum central pressure is 960 mb (28.35 inches).
 
 
HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

SURF:  Swells generated by Linda are expected to affect portions of
the coast of southwestern Mexico and the southern and western coast
of Baja California Sur over the next few days.  These swells are
likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions.
