DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 900 PM MDT (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Linda was located near latitude 17.9 North, longitude 113.9 West. Linda is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h). A turn toward the west is anticipated by early Sunday morning, followed by a turn toward the west-southwest early next week. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 120 mph (195 km/h) with higher gusts. Linda is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some additional intensification is expected through early Saturday morning, but a gradual weakening trend is forecast to commence by Saturday night. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles (205 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 962 mb (28.41 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Linda are expected to affect portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and the southern and western coast of Baja California Sur over the next few days.
