DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 300 PM MDT (2100 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Linda was located near latitude 17.5 North, longitude 112.9 West. Linda is moving toward the west-northwest near 14 mph (22 km/h). A turn toward the west is anticipated by late Saturday with this motion continuing through the weekend. A west-southwest motion is expected by early next week. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 115 mph (185 km/h) with higher gusts, making Linda a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir- Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Additional intensification is expected through tonight, but a gradual weakening trend is forecast to begin by the weekend. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles (205 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 965 mb (28.50 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Linda are expected to affect portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and the southern and western coast of Baja California Sur over the next few days. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
