DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 900 AM MDT (1500 UTC), the center of Hurricane Linda was located near latitude 16.9 North, longitude 111.8 West. Linda is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h). A turn toward the west is anticipated by late Saturday. The hurricane is then forecast to continue generally westward through the end of the weekend. A west-southwestward motion is expected early next week. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 105 mph (165 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is expected during the next day or two and Linda could become a major hurricane later today or this weekend. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles (280 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 971 mb (28.68 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Linda are expected to affect portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and the southern and western coast of Baja California Sur over the next few days. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
