DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 300 AM MDT (0900 UTC), the center of Hurricane Linda was located near latitude 16.4 North, longitude 110.6 West. Linda is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h), and this general motion is expected to continue through Saturday. A turn to the west is expected by late this weekend. Maximum sustained winds are near 90 mph (150 km/h) with higher gusts. Strengthening is expected over the next day or so, and Linda could be near major hurricane strength by Saturday. Weakening is forecast to begin by late this weekend. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 175 miles (280 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 987 mb (29.15 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Linda are expected to affect portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico and the southern and western coast of Baja California Sur over the next few days.
