DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 900 PM MDT (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Linda was located near latitude 15.8 North, longitude 109.6 West. Linda is moving toward the west-northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue through Saturday Night. A turn towards to west or west-southwest is expected to begin on Sunday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 85 mph (140 km/h) with higher gusts. Additional strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days, and Linda could be near major hurricane intensity by this weekend. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 30 miles (45 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 985 mb (29.09 inches). HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND ---------------------- SURF: Swells generated by Linda are expected to affect portions of the coast of southwestern Mexico over the next few days and should reach the southern and western coast of Baja California Sur on Friday. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.
