DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Sergio was located near latitude 15.9 North, longitude 120.5 West. Sergio is moving toward the northwest near 8 mph (13 km/h). A turn toward the west- northwest is forecast tonight, followed by a westward to west- southwestward motion on Friday and Saturday. A turn back toward the west-northwest is forecast on Sunday. Maximum sustained winds are near 125 mph (205 km/h) with higher gusts. Sergio is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Weakening is forecast through the weekend, but Sergio is expected to remain a hurricane through Sunday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 45 miles (75 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles (240 km).
