DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 200 PM PDT (2100 UTC), the center of Hurricane Norman was located near latitude 17.6 North, longitude 116.1 West. Norman is moving toward the west near 9 mph (15 km/h), and this general track with a turn to the west-southwest is forecast for the next several days. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 75 mph (120 km/h) with higher gusts. Rapid intensification is forecast, and Norman is expected to become a major hurricane on Thursday. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 15 miles (30 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km). The estimated minimum central pressure is 987 mb (29.15 inches).
